“The Quiver Project” Audition Call
Sanpapié Dance Company (Italy) in collaboration with Istanbul International Improvisation Dance Festival (Istanbul) within the international project “Quiver” is looking for 6 dancers, aged between 16 and 45 years, 3 women and 3 men, to build a mixed Italian-Turkish group that will work on a new site-specific contemporary dance creation to be presented in Istanbul on the 22nd and 23rd of June 2024.
Selected applicants, also in relation to the number of requests we will receive, will be contacted by email by the end of May to confirm participation in the audition.
The project will seek a dialogue between public space, dance and viewer in a composition that includes the audience as stage element and active interlocutor. It will be a strongly choral and direct choreographic action, for six dancers, that will burst into space, without predetermined areas, decreed fronts of vision and structural elements that announce its arrival or anticipate its development. Both dancers and audience will be equipped with wireless headphones, and the entire performance will be self-bearing and self-managed, realized in natural light without the aid of external technique.

11th of June 2024 10:00-17:00 at Akbank Sanat Istanbul

Working Period:
12th – 21st June Residency at Akbank Sanat / last days rehearsals on-site at the venue of the performance in İstanbul (working hours from 10 am to 5 pm)
22-23rd June Performance Days (3 performances each day)
Dancers Requirements:
- Good training in classical and contemporary dance techniques including floorwork and contact improvisation
- Skills in other physical practices such as acrobatics, break-dance, hip-hop, circus arts, folk and traditional dances
- Ability to improvise and create
- Aptitude for group work and memorization of shared choreographic material
- Aptitude for theatricality and use of voice
- Availability for the whole period (from 11th to 23rd June – no days off).

“The Quiver Project”
The project wants to weld the bond between Italy and Turkey, Sanpapié and Istanbul International Improvisation Dance Festival (I.I.I.D.F.), connection built through the project Go Towards 2023 (awarded by the Italian Ministry of Culture through the Boarding Pass Plus fund - https://www.gotowards.it/en/). Within the objectives of the project is the idea of sharing the artistic research of Sanpapié Company, which addresses to the languages of contemporary dance and performing art, towards the creation of high-quality performances that can tour in different national territories, generate intercultural exchanges and work opportunities.
