Aki Takase, born in Japan, already had piano lessons when she was three years old.

Her first celebrated performance was in 1981 at the Jazz festival with the Berlin Philarmony. She has collaborated and played with Cecil McBee, Joe Henderson, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Eugene Chadbourne, Han Bennink, Evan Parker, Paul Lovens, Rudi Mahall and Fred Frith. Played a key role in numerous duos and trios, she has released several solo albums focused on key figures of jazz history like Ellington, Monk, Dolphy, W.C. Handy, Fats Waller and O. Coleman. Her work "Plays Fats Waller"in 2004, has been voted as the best jazz album in Germany. She will be sharing the stage during the festival with such respected names as guitarist Eugene Chadbourne who played in so many diferent projects in a wide range from Violent Femmes to John Zorn, clarinet player Rudi Mahall, a very young talent on trombone Nils Wogram and Paul Lovens, one of the key figures of improvisation, on drums.
