HYPNOTIC BRASS ENSEMBLE
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, of which Blur founder Damon Albarn is such a big fan that he tapped the ensemble for his Gorillaz project, consists of Phil Cohran's - who played trumpet in the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra - 7 sons, educated by Cohran himself from the very early ages.
The group, being one of the critical discoveries of cult label Honest Jon's and blending different styles such as jazz, funk, soul and hip hop, took their name from a spectator's comment "you guys just hypnotized me" after a regular performance on Chicago streets. Being affected from 60's and 70's progressive jazz culture of Chicago, group members almost played together through their lives with the direction and education of their father. They shared the stage in North Sea Jazz Festival with such respected names as Mos Def and Aquilla Sadalla and worked with Erykah Badu and Maxwell in 2007.
