Savall became interested in Istanbul after the highly approved concert at the Istanbul Music Festival and has brought together Turkish and Catalonian musicians. Some of the songs from the CD are depended on the book Dimitri Kantemir, a great musicologist who lived in Istanbul during the Ottoman Empire, wrote in 1710. In addition to Kantemir's works, Sephardic and Armenian music from the Ottoman Istanbul are also included. Now, it can be considered a trio of Middle Eastern Region's music with Savall's other CD's Orient-Occident and Jeruselem with Istanbul which has been released in the first week of November. Another importance of the work Istanbul is that some parts in the CD's booklet are written in Turkish.
