P. İ. Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) Strings Serenade
Two Russian composers of Romantic Age start and end the concert with their pieces interrelated to each other. The only element which relate these composers are the ability to catch the soul of the age. Apart from this, they are in fact "People from Different Worlds".
The pieces composed for Evelyn Glennie, guest of Akbank Chamber Orchestra, contributed much to the percussions to be accepted as soloist. Colin Currie, a percussion wizard, continues this tradition by enriching the repertoire with the music devoted to him, and who should be definitely listened live.
"Now You Hear Me, Now You Don't"- The Marimba Concerto of Kurt Schwersik and Dave Maric's "in Lifetimes" are a proof of how comprehensible and entertaining the new "fresh" music will be and it will come alive within the hands of Currie.
Tchaikovsky's serenade composed for strings shines entirely with optimism and it is one of the most cheerful masterpieces of all times. Akbank Chamber Orchestra starts the concert with the variations which Anton Arenski greet his Master.
Cem Mansur, will be on the stage 30 minutes before the concerts for a cheerful chat which has become a classic in Istanbul's music life...
