Collections, Archives, and Their Users

Seminar: Collections, Archives, and Their Users
Speaker: Özge Ersoy

About the Seminar: What is the potential of collections and archives in rethinking how knowledge is accessed, interpreted, and shared? Taking its cue from this question, this seminar will focus on two case studies: (i) collectorspace (founded in 2011), an Istanbul-based nonprofit initiative that aims to open private contemporary art collections to the public and activate discussions on collecting through its exhibitions, public programs, and publications, and (ii) Asia Art Archive (founded in 2000), a Hong Kong–based nonprofit organization initiated with the aim to document and preserve lesser visible histories of art in the region and to encourage participation and collaborative research through exhibitions, residencies, and public programs.

About the speaker: Özge Ersoy is a curator and arts writer. She is Public Programs Lead at Asia Art Archive, a research institution located in Hong Kong. Ersoy is also Research and Programming Associate for the 13th Gwangju Biennale (2020), Assistant Curator of Sarkis: Respiro at The Pavilion of Turkey, La Biennale di Venezia, Venice (2015), and Curator of Aslı Çavuşoğlu: Stones Talk at ARTER, Istanbul (2013). Her writings have been included in Curating Under Pressure (Routledge, 2019), The Constituent Museum (Valiz and L’Internationale, 2018), Erkan Özgen: Giving Voices (Sternberg, Fundació Han Nefkens and Fundació Antoni Tàpies, 2018), and Speculation, Now (Duke University Press and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics, 2014), among others. She is also Managing Editor of m-est.org, an online publication conceived as an artist-centered initiative. Ersoy holds an MA from the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College.

The event will take place over Skype interview.

The single course fee of the event you want to participate in the seminar series is 100 TL and tickets can only be obtained from the ticket offices. For more information: apply@curatingcontemporaryart.org
