Workshop
Mehmet Çağlarer / New Expressions, New Approaches in Photography

For those who have set their hearts on the art of photography and want to improve themselves on certain points, those who are displeased with producing the same kind of photographs all the time and want to develop their own unique way of expression, those who want to learn new shooting techniques and to manipulate their photographs utilising more advanced methods on the computer, those who want to prepare themselves for advanced photography and perhaps even to pursue a professional career in photography, those who want to develop their skills and knowledge in an open-minded environment and find their own voice in photography, those who want to get some help in expanding their skills, finding new subjects to investigate and new approaches to work with: the second year of Akbank Sanat’s Photography Workshop NEW EXPRESSIONS, NEW APPROACHES IN PHOTOGRAPHY that was launched in 2016 will commence in November 2017, once again under the tutorship of photographer Mehmet Çağlarer.

The workshop aims to assist the lovers of photography, to help them find new horizons and to improve their techniques. On the other hand, it also aims to create a community of photographers with a unique and distinguished place in the art of photography in Turkey in the coming years.

In order to maintain one to one communication at the workshop, classes will be limited to a maximum of 20 people. The duration of the basic learning phase of the workshop is 3 months and the meetings will be held at the Akbank Sanat premises on İstiklal Avenue once a week, starting at 18:00 and lasting for at least 2 hours. From the second month of basic education onwards, there will be shooting excursions in and out of Istanbul once a month. During the process, participants will be guided through basic elements of visual arts and photography, visual principles, the subtleties of using a camera, techniques of composition, determining a subject as well as basic photography processing techniques.

The learning process will be interactive and both in theoretical and practical spheres. Participants successfully completing this stage will continue into the following practice-focused phase. In this second phase, participants will develop their own visual language of expression freely and start producing work.

Participating and successfully completing the basic learning phase is a prerequisite of taking part in the second stage where information will be conveyed at a professional level.

The date of the workshop: November 2017
