Born in Baku, the pianist and composer Amina Figarova, with her sextet she co-founded with her husband, the flutist Brat Platteau, has been the guest of prestigious events such as Newport Jazz, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival; while developing a tight-knit ensemble during those 18 years of extensive touring. After leaving their base in Rotterdam with her husband, moving to Queens in New York, she was back with their 12th album project called Twelve. In these tracks composed and arranged by Figarova, she articulated her impressions of the Big Apple. While in Blue Whispers, her 13th album, to be presented in their upcoming Istanbul concert, she fused her classical touch on keys with straight-ahead rhythms and bright harmonies, this time telling about social turmoil, her encounters with different people and life’s universal transitions. This album, which includes two songs commissioned by Jazz from Lincoln Center (“Pictures” and “The Traveller) will make its Turkish debut, thanks to Akbank Jazz Festival.
