Ayşegül & Nezih Yeşilnil Quintet “Jazzy, Rocky, Funky”
Ayşegül Yeşilnil and Nezih Yeşilnil, who have been performing since the 1980s, have an adventurous journey in jazz through academia, and visual and plastic arts in addition to their roles as musicians and performers. Having collaborated with many musicians from both the Turkish and global jazz scenes throughout their careers, the Yeşilnil duo returned to Izmir after 35 years in Istanbul and continued to perform with their orchestra. The two experienced musicians will be guests of the 34th Akbank Jazz Festival with their Jazzy, Rocky, Funky performance at Akbank Sanat on October 11. They describe this performance with the following words: “Jazzy, Rocky, Funky is a repertoire of songs that were at the top of the charts when they were written, some of which are masterpieces that shaped the musical styles of their era. It represents an analysis based on the fusion of rhythmic, melodic and harmonic structures from different styles with our musical background. It’s an approach to music based on how you play, not what you play, with surprising arrangements...” In this special project, you can listen to the surprising arrangements of songs you miss by Nezih Yeşilnil, who is celebrating his 55th year as an artist and has previously been awarded the ‘İKSV Lifetime Achievement Award.’
