Turning Points in Jazz History
Defining jazz and tracing its boundaries is as challenging as narrating its origins from a historical perspective. Since the first known jazz recording, the history of jazz has given rise to a wide spectrum of styles and movements, often sparking and shaping one another. These movements have long been recognized as reflections of Afro-American cultural, social, and political transformations. This panel, taking place on October 5 at Bağlarbaşı Cultural Center as part of the 35th Akbank Jazz Festival, will briefly revisit such revolutionary shifts in jazz history and highlight the musicians who drove these transformative periods.
