Antien van Mierlo has been teaching at Codarts Rotterdam for over 20 years. After completing her dance studies, she went to New York to specialise in the Merce Cunningham technique. Since then she has danced, taught and choreographed in Europe and beyond.
Her style of teaching is to approach the dancer in an open way, coaching them to achieve their personal goals. By working with a clear focus, dancers are encouraged to work in new ways to develop their dance qualities. By giving the dancer tools, the dancers can become more self-aware and self-regulating. As a result, they can keep growing without being dependent on teachers/choreographers or coaches. In her Cunningham classes she incorporates improvisation and playful assignments to challenge the dancer to get out of their comfort zone to discover and expand their boundaries.
