Dave Okumu & 7 Generations
“I want to learn how to connect with people and how to communicate because this is what life is about.” Kenya-born and UK-based musician Dave Okumu, who found himself in the spotlight with his band The Invisible in the 2010s, describes his drive to create music with these words. Growing up in a music-filled home as the youngest of eight siblings, Okumu aims to preserve his traditions and roots through his songs. His widely acclaimed recent album, I Came From Love, was released under the name Dave Okumu & The 7 Generations, symbolizing his and his musical lineage’s representation of past and future generations. This intergenerational experience includes guest contributions from heroes like Grace Jones, as well as Kwabs, Wesley Joseph, Robert Stillman and Anthony Joseph. Dave Okumu & 7 Generations will be at Babylon on October 4.
