---------------------------------

In this day and age we think with images rather than words. Instead of recounting our memories with the use of words, we share them through images. As time goes by, the pen and paper are replaced by visual recording equipment. Cinema, with its aspects concerning psychiatry, philosophy, literature and aesthetics, is the apex of visual recording. In its broadest definition, psychiatry is the science of understanding human moods, its breaking points, and ensuring the healthy development of the individual’s psychic fabric. Anything and everything related to human beings, and all things that human beings relate to fall within the field of psychiatry. The path that psychiatry treads crosses that of the art of cinema, which aspires to understand, give an account of, and witness life. The inevitable interaction, the mutually beneficial relationship between psychiatry and cinema is an intrinsic quality of the latter that pursues to understand the human being, to tell its story, and in a way bear witness to the human condition. An awareness of the relationship between cinema and psychiatry would be consequential in terms of understanding, deepening, enriching and simplifying the language of cinema. “The Human Condition in Cinema” aims to create a platform of discussion to delve into the relationship between cinema, concerned with recounting, and psychiatry, concerned with understanding and unravelling.
