“On the Relationship Between Language and Thought”

Is language necessary for thought? Regarding this ancient philosophical question, the French philosopher Rene Descartes’ response was an unequivocal “yes”, while the Scottish philosopher David Hume would reply “no” with the same certainty. In this talk, where we will be focusing on this question, first and foremost, we will attempt to clarify what we mean by language and thought. Following that, we will present how the possible answers to this question were justified in recent philosophical literature.
