fugamundi x Hakan Bıçakçı Jazz Listening Club: Jazz and Suspense in Cinema
Jazz Listening Club is an event series that transforms the act of listening into a space for shared reflection and dialogue. Organized by fugamundi as part of the Akbank Jazz Festival, this special session invites writer Hakan Bıçakcı for an exploration of how jazz functions as a tool for creating cinematic tension. Together, we will delve into how rhythm, atmosphere, and silence can evoke a sense of unease; how music shapes emotional responses in both characters and viewers; and the role of jazz in noir and horror films.
The event unfolds in two parts:
In the first part, the guest presents a curated selection of tracks related to the theme and engages in a guided conversation with the moderator. In the second part, audience members suggest their own tracks to be played and discussed collectively, encouraging an open and participatory exchange.
Rather than focusing on technical analysis, the session creates a collective space to explore the emotional, narrative, and cinematic qualities that jazz music can evoke.
