Speaker: Esra A. Aysun

About the seminar: The art managers will undoubtedly be the professionals who will have a big impact on the healthy and sustainability of the privately supported art institutions and initiatives which have initially evolved Istanbul based yet have recently been gaining increasing importance in other cities as well.  In this module, Aysun will focus on Art Management as a professional field, as a symbol of conflict and paradox between culture and management and will analyze it in the light of the ongoing global discussions it brings about.

About the speaker: 1974, İstanbul. Born in Istanbul, Aysun completed her BA at the Sociology Department of Boğaziçi University (Istanbul) and MA at the New York University, Administration of Performing Arts (New York).  She has worked as a consultant and an administrator at various institutions of arts and culture in Istanbul such as the Gallerist Gallery, Dot Theatre and Museum of Innocence through her professional career that she has been pursuing since 2003. She has simultaneously lectured on arts management at Yıldız Teknik, Yeditepe and Mimar Sinan universities from 2005 to 2013. As a consultant, Aysun acted as an advisory and management board member of networks supporting international cultural collaborations of IETM (Brussels), Balkan Express (Slovenia), Cimetta Fund (Paris) and AICA Turkey from 2008 to 2013. Aysun was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Pavilion of Turkey in the 55th Venice Biennale (2013). She is currently appointed as the board member of the ARTER Museum (2019). Aysun undertook the editorship of the Current Issues booklet of Sanat Dünyamız Magazine in 2014-15 and is the editor of the book Sanat Yönetimi Üzerine Konuşmalar (Talks on Arts Management) published by Yapi Kredi Publications in 2014. Esra A. Aysun works at the British Council in Turkey as Head of Arts since 2014.
