Jazz Meets Rap
Premiered at the 35th Akbank Jazz Festival, the Jazz Meets Rap project returns to the stage as part of the Akbank Sanat Her Yerde programme!
Having previously introduced audiences to a powerful fusion of jazz and rap through the Nazdrave x Rap concerts and album, the collective continues to bring their boundary-pushing project, Jazz Meets Rap, to life.
Rich jazz harmonies are carried by a dynamic three-piece horn section featuring Barış Doğukan Yazıcı on trumpet, Engin Recepoğulları on tenor saxophone, and Bulut Gülen on trombone. Their sound is deepened by the fluid groove of Gökhan Sürer and Adem Gülşen on keyboards, Orhan Deniz on bass, and Ediz Hafızoğlu on drums. Over this powerful instrumental base, Da Poet fires the stage with turntable wizardry and vocals, while Ayben, Melis Karaduman, Kamufle, Spade427, and 3pillie transform rhythm into word, and word into rhythm. The songs expand into a broad sonic spectrum with 3pillie’s guitar textures.
Taking place on April 29 at Babylon, Jazz Meets Rap is a bold and original project that fuses the improvisational nature of jazz with the lyrical sharpness of rap. Rooted in tradition yet forward-looking, the performance invites the audience on a genre-bending musical journey.
