Joel Lyssarides & Georgios Prokopiou
Joel Lyssarides and Georgios Prokopiou bring the bouzouki to the jazz stage in a rare and remarkable encounter. In 2022, Swedish pianist Joel Lyssarides, the grandson of a Greek Cypriot, who came to Sweden in the 1940s, and Greek bouzouki master Georgios Prokopiou played together for the first time. Their debut concert followed in 2023, and in 2024, they released their debut album Arcs & Rivers under the ACT label. Recorded during a four-hour session at the ACT Art Collection in Berlin, it radiates a naturalness of cultural fusion that transcends any stylistic constraints. Arcs & Rivers is like a sketchbook containing dialogues which –considering it is a first time venture– sets a bar for achievement very high indeed. Joel Lyssarides & Georgios Prokopiou will perform on ARTER on October 1 as part of the 35th Akbank Jazz Festival, in collaboration with ARTER.
