"Curating Contemporary Art" Seminar Program

Seminar: Collection Management

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Nevra Ertürk Güngör

Time: 6:00-7:30 pm

Definition of collection; meaning and characteristics of object; basic terms in collection management; importance and necessity of collection management; collection gathering, development and research of museums; collection unit and experts in museums with examples from Turkey and abroad; organisations related to collection management; national and international regulations about collection management; elements of collection management policy; acquisition, deaccession, loans, research, access and insurance; examples of collection management policies.

About Prof. Dr. Nevra Ertürk Güngör

Prof. Dr. Nevra Ertürk Güngör holds her bachelor's degree in classical archeology,  master's degree in museum studies, and PhD degree in architectural history and theory. She conducted her post-doc research named as ‘museum storage management’ at ICCROM. She interned at the Istanbul Archaeological Museums and the J. Paul Getty Museum, worked as senior researcher at the National Museum of Kenya. She is the Executive Committee Member of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO and Head of the Tangible Cultural Heritage Expert Committee. She is the Board Member of the Yıldız Technical University Research Center for Preservation of Historical Heritage and ICOMOS Scientific Committee on Risk Preparedness (ICORP) Türkiye. She taught courses at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Art Works at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, and Istanbul Bilgi University Department of Art and Cultural Management, and she acted as the Head of the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property at Yıldız Technical University between 2017-2024. Nevra Ertürk Güngör is an academic staff at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property and her  research interest are; cultural heritage management, risk management in museums, curatorial work and museum storage management.

This seminar is organized in collaboration between Akbank Sanat and Open Dialogue Istanbul
