Contemporary Art and Ecological Experiments (Production Workshop for Artists)

“Material: Wind”

Facilitator: Sena Başöz

Date: February 10-13, 2026

Time: 19:00 - 21:00

Wind is light, intangible, and invisible, yet immensely powerful: it moves, erodes, carries, and connects. It resists containment and introduces instability into fixed structures. It does not erase; it redistributes. It transforms through circulation.

In her artistic practice Sena Başöz works with wind and other turbulent forces such as water not as metaphors, but as active agents. She is interested in how these forces enter exhibition spaces as catalysts; how they challenge the stability of the white cube, activate what is inert, lost, or dormant, and affect the body. Small shifts in turbulence can generate far-reaching change. Through this logic, she approaches archives, history, systems, and material remains not as static entities, but as fields that can be reanimated through movement. She draws strength from the uncontrollability of wind as a triggering force.

This workshop approaches wind as an alternative material and aims to create a space for research and discussion that questions the role and effects of turbulence in artistic production. It begins with her own practice and artistic research and unfolds through creative questions and exercises, taking shape through the participants’ creative contributions.

Sena Başöz (1980, İzmir) is an artist working across multiple media whose works investigate themes of healing, exploring ways to interact with what is considered out of reach, and experimentally regenerating what is perceived as frozen, dead, stale, or lost. She often works with archives as the only tangible material that bridges life and death. Başöz focuses on broader definitions of "care" and the practices it entails. The organism's self-repair and the balance nature achieves over time form the backbone of this narrative. Her most recent work delves into the body as an archive and movement as a tool for regeneration.

Başöz received her BA in Economics from Boğaziçi University in 2002 and her MFA in Film and Video from Bard College Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts in 2010. She has participated in artist residencies at Atelierhaus Salzamt, Linz (2010), Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2017) and Delfina Foundation, London (2020–2022).

* This workshop is intended for participants working in contemporary art or aiming to engage in a process of artistic production and research focused on ecological processes, wind, movement, and transformation. Regular attendance throughout the program is expected. Participation is free of charge and capacity is limited to 15 participants.
