Maya Perest
Istanbul-based composer and songwriter Maya Perest is known for her voice that connects the ancient past and the modern era. In her compositions, she blends Anatolian elements with sounds from different lands. She started walking her own path at the age of ten and recorded her first songs on a Sony voice recorder gifted by her mother. After receiving classical piano training, she began composing on the piano during her teenage years. While studying Philosophy of Art in Montpellier, she led a nomadic life filled with music, traveling across Europe with her guitar and writing songs. Over the years, she has collaborated with musicians such as Cihan Mürtezaoğlu, Tarkan Gözübüyük, and Okan Kaya. Most recently, she released the single “Kaldım Annem” in the spring of 2025. Describing and channeling her music as “modern-day shamanism,” Maya Perest will take the stage at Sakıp Sabancı Museum during the opening weekend of the Akbank Jazz Festival.
