Talk: “On the Borderline of Normal and Abnormal: Madness”

Is madness a biological fate or a social construct? We range from Thomas Szasz’s provocation that "mental illness is a metaphor" to Michel Foucault’s analyses of power and confinement. We question how modernity medicalizes those who do not fit the definition of "normal" and whether madness is actually a form of rebellion overflowing the system. Dr. Cengiz Arca and Ezgi Emel invite you to walk the fine line between the diagnostic power of psychiatry and philosophy’s quest for freedom.
* The event titled “On the Boundary of the Normal and the Abnormal: Madness,” originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 at 18:30, has been postponed to Wednesday, March 11 at 18:30 due to our speaker’s health condition. The invitations of participants who have registered for the event will also be valid for the new date.
* The event will take place at the Minoa Pera, Sahne.
