One of Turkey’s and the world’s foremost percussion masters, Okay Temiz has been an incredibly prolific artist since the 60’s with his projects that bring together Eastern music with jazz, his albums, the percussion school he founded in Istanbul’s Kuledibi neighbourhood and the instruments he invented. Performing all around the world with his band Okay Temiz & Oriental Wind, which was founded in the 70’s in Stockholm with prominent jazz musicians from Scandinavia and Europe, Temiz re-eastablished the band with musicians from Turkey after his return in 1998. The journey of Okay Temiz & Oriental Wind which has started even before the term “world music” was coined, is now bringing them to the 31st Akbank Jazz Festival.
