Önder Focan & Şallıel Bros “Funkbook”
The ‘Funkbook’ project was born at a Nardis Jazz Club concert where the masterful jazz guitarist Önder Focan played alongside two saxophonists, Şallıel Brothers. Highly praised, this project was made into an album in 2016, which has funky and dynamic covers of Önder Focan songs by Anıl and Batuhan Şallıel. To this day, Focan took part in festivals in various countries including the US, France and Germany, and accompanied the likes of Benny Golson, Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves and Al Foster. Önder Focan is one of the most productive Turkish jazz musicians in terms of the number of records released; including an album released by the famous record company Blue Note. Şallıel Brothers worked with the world-renowned virtuoso drummer Dave Weckl and Anıl Şallıel shared the stage with the Italian jazz guitarist Nicola Conte during the “International Jazz Day”. Şallıel Brothers continue to play with Istanbul Superband.
