RYMDEN (Bugge Wesseltoft, Dan Berglund, Magnus Öström)
The music of the trio RYMDEN, one of the most exciting forces in Scandinavian jazz in recent years, is based on three elements: melancholic and atmospheric songwriting, dramatically charged rhythms, and virtuously played jazz of the highest level. Since the mid-90s, the three musicians have created a parallel musical legacy with their groups e.s.t. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio) and New Conception of Jazz, and released their first album as RYMDEN in 2019. After their previous excursions into the outer cosmos–the highly acclaimed studio albums Reflections and Odysseys, Space Sailors and the powerful live album RYMDEN+KORK– RYMDEN have returned to Earth with their new album, Valleys and Mountains. However, as one might expect from the trio of Bugge Wesseltoft, Magnus Öström and Dan Berglund, their music is not strictly earthbound–the inner cosmos, dreams and visions offer new spaces to explore. The trio will meet Istanbul audiences on the evening of Wednesday, October 8, at Zorlu PSM Turkcell Platinum Stage as part of the 35th Akbank Jazz Festival.
