Modern Ballet Class & Choreography & Method Training

1 WEEK / FULL DAY WORKSHOP

Including Open Presentation Show

The presentation on 21st Friday will include a performance of fragments from the research week of ‘Physical Script’ - Gross’s choreographic method.

We will present short fragments of the developed material.

Next to that there will be an artist talk together with the choreographer Sagi Gross and the participating with local dancers.

The presentation will be 60min’.

'Physical script'
Choreographic method of choreographer Sagi Gross:

Gross named his choreographic method Physical Script, as he likes to think about his dancers more as moving actors who use their bodies to produce "physical expressive words", instead of "movements.” He seeks to create meaning to every moment and movement and to articulate its meaning, within the context of the material provided by this physical language. He is attracted to the sense of present of being in the 'here and now'.

Gross: “Even if we rehearse and repeat the same physical moments and movements, I always want the dancers to follow the sensation that they are experiencing each moment for the first time; just like when actors receive a text, they won’t just repeat the given lines, but would try to reach with it into their soul and individual awareness, in order to create for themselves a very specific momentum of presence. This gives a surprisingly different intuitive human quality, which may connect universally for different moments during the creation and performances. It is challenging me as a spectator and gives space to question different moments constantly."

Technique classes - Contemporary Ballet class description:

The ballet class focuses on different qualities and dynamics within the ballettraining lexicon. Developing exercises that focus on articulating movement, to give space between the bones, joints and against the floor and space. Giving the joints freedom within the classical positions. Finding ways to individualize the technique for the dancer, considering his/her needs and unique way of working. And further using musicality and space, to develop and challenge them. Motivating the dancers to enjoy and appreciate the technique, as well as keeping a healthy mind and body.
