"Curating Contemporary Art" Seminar Program
Seminar: The Aesthetics of Crime: Reflectionf of Violence And Forgery In Art
Speaker: Özgür Demirci
Time: 6:00-7:00 pm
The seminar examines the relationship between art and crime. Drawing on important theft and forgery events in art history, it examines how works of art are stolen, copied, and how these situations find a response in the art world. The seminar, which covers examples such as the theft of the Mona Lisa from the Louvre Museum or a museum action by artist Ulay, will continue with the stories of people who produce fake works of art and international institutions working in this field. At the same time, through some contemporary artists and projects, how art intersects with crime and how these intersections are reflected in art production will be discussed. This seminar will address the multi-layered structure of art, which is intertwined not only with aesthetics but also with social, legal, and ethical questions.
