Dans Atölyesi
Tijen Goosen Lawton

Akbank Sanat is hosting Tijen Goosen Lawton. She is a professional dancer, performer and teacher based in Belgium. She was born in 1972 to a Turkish mother and British father. She began her dance studies while living in İstanbul, later continued at The Arts Educational School London, The Place London and The Juilliard School New York. In 1998 Tijen became a longtime member of Needcompany, directed by Jan Lauwers and Grace Ellen Barkley. As a teacher, creator and coach Tijen works in professional, educational and social artistic fields throughout Europe. She is a regular guest teacher at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp.

Tijen continues creating, performing and teaching and is currently working with Mauro Paccagnella, Mokhallad Rasem, Claudio Bernardo & KunstZ. Tijen Lawton is constantly investigating and challenging her own body as an archive…Through the continuous, ongoing questioning of the body as a communicative vessel, a limitless tool, a model for a multitude of mindsets, researching the internal limit and space of thinking as inspired by the purity and complexity of the body and the ‘life’ it lives…combining release and control, memory and the present moment, deviating from mind making decisions, letting hyper-sensitivity guide you and steer you to endless, relentless possibilities of movement, reaching full creativity within the dancers body and shifting the space around you.

Participant number is limited to 25.
