Tomas Fujiwara 7 Poets Trio
Drummer Tomas Fujiwara, who has worked with a number of musicians including Anthony Braxton, Matana Roberts and Mary Halvorson, gave life to 7 Poets Trio in April 2018 during his residency at John Zorn’s famous venue The Stone in New York. He formed the trio with Patricia Brennan and Tomeka Reid with a motivation to bring together two musicians who have never played together and create new combinations with distinct musical identities. The self-titled first album was released in 2019, and the six-track sophomore album Pith was released in 2023. After 7 Poets Trio played their first performance, the following comment was made in the All About Jazz review: “a meshing of chamber jazz, modern classical composition and improvisation, although most of Fujiwara's music sounded well organized in advance. All three members were devoted to establishing a sensitive group consciousness, and they succeeded eminently." Tomas Fujiwara 7 Poets Trio will be at Akbank Sanat on October 3.
