Speaker: Hasan Bülent Kahraman
About the Seminar: Popular Culture is the 20th century’s a gift to the cultural world. It can be said that it started with the entertainment industry and then encompassed every corner of human and social life and processes. It can be said that it started with the entertainment industry and then encompassed every corner of human and social life and its whole processes. Turkey is under the influence of this culture with the mass culture that we get closer to or further away from time to time since the 1950s. It experiences different aspects and dimensions of this cultural language and mind. Popular Culture communicates and interacts with mass and entertainment cultures as well as anthropological cultural universes. Contemporary Art has made popular culture its subject since the beginning in various contexts. Nevertheless, it can be said that the real interest has intensified after 1980. This approach of art consistently complied with popular culture with its critical, questioning and dialectical structure. Not seeing it as a neutral field, it used itself as one of the dynamics that produced it and built its own reality from time to time. This speech is a reading attempt of the relationship in question through theories and periods.
