NFT as a use case in Web3

Emerging technologies such as blockchain aim to enable secure peer-to-peer transactions in digital world without the need for an intermediary. While the first use case of blockchain technology has been in the finance world - (so called DeFi - Decentralized Finance), the next up and coming area will most likely be non-fungible-tokens (NFTs). We will have a quick look at the philosophy behind blockchain and the hype around it and then dive into NFT space. While NFT consists of a wide range of use cases we will limit our coverage to digital art. What is NFT, what value add it brings to the art space, who are major players in the market, type and size of transaction volumes and the growth in the area.
Turan Sert
Turan Sert has been active in the finance and technology space for over two decades. His previous business experience includes, audit (Arthur Andersen), investment banking (Garanti Bank), management consulting (Booz Allen), investment management (Fiba Holding), and operations (Ozyegin University) as well as entrepreneurship in a technology startup. He has been focusing on blockchain space over the last six years and authored two books; 'Sorularla Blockchain (Questions on Blockchain)' in 2019 and ‘Sorularla DeFi - Merkeziyetsiz Finans (Questions on DeFi- Decentralized Finance)’ in 2022. He is currently an advisor to Paribu and BlockchainIST Center. He holds an BA degree in management from Bogazici University and an MBA from Harvard Business Schools.
