Seminar: From New Media to Digital Art

In this course, we will examine the changing concepts of the relationship between art and technology starting from the 60s through important exhibitions and artists, and then quickly move on to the present day by looking at the history of New Media Art, and try to understand the positioning of the field we call digital art today.
About Ekmel Ertan
Ekmel Ertan works as a curator, cultural manager, artist and educator. He is a founding member and artistic director of amberPlatform/BIS (Body Processing Arts Association) based in Istanbul. He is the founder and director of amber Art and Technology Festival (2007-2015 Istanbul) and amberNetworkFestival (2021 Berlin). He realizes exhibitions and projects in the field of new media as an independent curator in Türkiye and abroad. Ertan has been teaching new media art and design since 1999; he has worked as a coordinator or local manager in multi-partner international projects since 2007. Ertan is one of the founding members of the Independents initiative, which advocates an independent art and culture environment in Türkiye. Ertan lives and works in Berlin and Istanbul.
