Akbank Sanat Philosophy Seminars
“Thinking with Paintings”
Moderator: Emre Şan
Venue: Minerva Han
Is it possible to establish a relationship between painting and seeing that resembles the one between language and thought? Throughout the seminar series, we will examine how the gaze is reshaped by painting through examples from art history. Questioning the imagistic fabric of reality calls for a dialogue between painters and philosophers. In the course that runs from cave paintings to modern art, paintings transform forms of individual and collective remembering, perception and expectation. Philosophy, for its part, both encounters its own questions in this interaction with the world and searches for original ways of collaborating with art.
