Documentary Cinema - Nebil Özgentürk

Renowned writer and director Nebil Özgentürk will share his experiences with the festival audience in conversation organized for the Documentary Cinema section of the festival.

Nebil Özgentürk

Journalist, writer, producer and director Nebil Özgentürk was born in Adana. He graduated from Business Administration Department of Ege University. Özgentürk, who started journalism as a news reporter in İzmir bureau of Günaydın Newspaper, continued his career in Sabah Newspaper in Istanbul. During his journalism studies he traveled throughout Anatolia, observed many political leaders and political events, and made interviews. In Romania, Abkhazia, he was a war reporter during the Gulf War. We first heard his name as a journalist. In 1990, he started writing as a columnist at Sabah Newspaper, his interviews created a big impact. He was writing interesting portrait-interviews in Sabah. Columns have been compiled into books over the years in the name of “Bir Yudum İnsan”, “Unutulmayanlar”, “Yıllar ve Yüzler”. “Bir Yudum İnsan” documentaries, which started in ATV in 1998 and continued in CNN Turk, made a mark in that period of time. Names that had left a mark in Turkey's recent history such as Çetin Altan, Türkan Şoray, Lefter, Cem Yılmaz, their life stories and memories, was followed by millions of viewers. Later Özgentürk wrote, directed and produced 1000 minutes long “Türkiye’nin Hatıra Defteri” and “Sanatımızın Hatıra Defteri” documentaries. He continued his screenings for 8 years and shared the screen with Hıncal Uluç and Haşmet Babaoğlu in the program called “Yaşamdan Dakikalar”, which brought a lot of awards and made a record in the field of culture and art. Culture and arts programs such as “Dünya Bir Oyun Sahnesi”, which was hosted by Kenan Işık and “Güzel Şeyler”, which was hosted by Ferhat Göçer, were also prepared and directed by him. He prepared “İstanbul’un Entelektüel Tarihinden Tanıklıklar” documentary. He made the documentary “Asırlık Yüzler”, which included the testimonies and long-life secrets of people over 100 years of age. “Biz-Kültür Yolcuları”, which shed light on vanishing cultures, different beliefs and identities of Turkey with Can Dündar and Coşkun Aral, was produced and directed by him. He prepared the documentary of “Osmanlı’dan Cumhuriyete At Sevdası”. Finally, he prepared the documentary of “Almanya’ya Göçün Hatıra Defteri”, which describes the 57 years of immigration to Germany with striking stories and anecdotes. Nebil Özgentürk, who has more than 20 books as a writer, owns hundreds of awards in journalism, television, culture and art.
