Wild Child Orchestra (Ages 9-12)
The spirit of jazz improvisation meets children at its wildest! Using soundpainting, a creative sign language for live composition, kids will form their own improvisational orchestra using sounds, rhythms, their bodies, and words. This workshop introduces the joy of collective creation and demonstrates that mistakes are a vital part of creativity. Participants will even have the chance to step into the conductor’s role and lead the group, making for a fun and free experience full of laughter. Burcu Yılmaz, who specializes in soundpainting, will be accompanied by Orhan Deniz and his clarinet at the workshop, which will take place at the Akatlar Cultural Center on October 3 as part of the 36th Akbank Jazz Festival.

Capacity: 5-15 participants
Note: Comfortable clothing is recommended. Children are welcome to bring their own instruments if they wish. The event will be held in Turkish.
About Burcu Yılmaz Deniz
Following her undergraduate studies at Boğaziçi University, she completed her master's degrees in Culture and Arts Management and Performing Arts at Koç University and University of Strasbourg. She took part in projects by Villa Theater (France), Altenburg State Theater (Germany), and Ceren Oran & Moving Borders (Germany). She worked as the co-curator of bomontiada ALT in Istanbul and currently continues her work in the field of performing arts as the co-director of A Corner in the World. Burcu Yılmaz, who has been organizing Soundpainting workshops with children for a long time, focuses on expanding children's fields of creative expression and discovering different ways of creating together in her work that brings together sound, movement, and improvisation.
