Danae Palaka
Istanbul-based drummer and composer Danae Palaka blends contemporary jazz, krautrock, and electronic music with Anatolian, Balkan, and Afrobeat-influenced rhythms. Born in Athens to a musical family partially hailing from Istanbul, Palaka moved to İstanbul to explore the city’s heritage and her own roots. She has been active in the local and global scenes ever since. In October 2024 she released her debut album, Velox, via A.F.O.M. INT, the label of famed selector Zozo from Turkey. The album is co-produced with Nikos Dervisis and captures the synergy of drums and synthesizers with intricate rhythms and dreamlike textures running through the listeners’ veins. Danae Palaka will be at Yeldeğirmeni Sanat on September 26 as a guest of the 36th Akbank Jazz Festival.
