With participations of the director of San Francisco Silent Film Festival and a film restorer, Robert Byrne, and the curator of Danish Film Institute, Thomas Christensen, we will discuss the impacts of today’s rapidly evolving digital technology on the preservation, restoration and screenings of silent cinema. Restorations of several films such as Two Timid Souls, The Hound of Baskervilles and Fragment of an Empire we screen at the festival this year bear our guest Robert Byrne’s signature. Thomas Christensen provides technical consultancy services to the archives around the world with his personal experience in Danish Film Institute where he worked for many years and could witness the adoption processes of digital technology.
