fugamundi x Can Sürmen Jazz Listening Club: Imperfect Timing - The Human Side of Groove
Organized in collaboration with Akbank Sanat and fugamundi, the Jazz Listening Club meets for another special session as part of the 36th Akbank Jazz Festival. The guest for this session is drummer, arranger, and producer Can Sürmen. The session will explore swing, groove, and the feel of live drumming under the theme “Imperfect Timing: The Human Side of Groove.” What truly moves us in music: a flawless metronome or the subtle micro-delays and human touch between beats? Together with Can Sürmen, we will focus on the human feel of rhythm rather than strict machine accuracy.
The event, taking place at Opus 3a on October 10, consists of two parts:
In the first part, attendees will listen to tracks selected by Can Sürmen, accompanied by a conversation on the human touch in drumming and the feeling of rhythm. In the second part, track recommendations submitted by the audience will be drawn from a box and played at random, paving the way for open sharing.
