Where Do You Draw the Line? - Talks and Workshop Program

Talk: "Where Do Camera Departments Stand on the Line?"

Time: 15.00 – 16.30

Moderator: Ruken Doğu Erdede

Speaker: Zeynep Seçil

It is possible to observe that the long-standing struggle of women for presence in the field of cinematography—one of the fundamental elements of filmmaking—continues in our country as well, reflected in the insufficient number of female filmmakers in the camera and lighting teams.

In this discussion, where we will focus on the power of a camera regardless of gender to explore the new discoveries, stories, relationships, and interactions that arise when the “seeing and showing” dynamic is approached from a female perspective, our speaker Zeynep Seçil will examine both the journey undertaken to construct a female gaze in cinematography and the future of this path. Through her own production experiences, we will also explore ways to achieve a lasting presence in this field.

Zeynep Seçil is a graduate of the Cinema and TV Department at Anadolu University in Eskişehir. Since 2011, she has worked as a camera assistant on numerous films, commercials, and music video projects. Following her work as a camera assistant, she has continued her career as a cinematographer. The films she has contributed to have been screened at various national and international film festivals.

The event will take place at Kadir Has University / Cinema B. Entrances will be through Door D.
