Editing, one of the most defining stages of film production, shapes a film’s rhythm, emotion, and narrative. We talk with Ayris Alptekin, who has worked as an editor for many years, about the dynamics of this creative process, her experiences within production workflows, and the changing conditions of the profession.
During the talk, we will reflect on the editor’s role within the creative partnership with the director, the dynamics of teamwork, and the position of women editors in the industry. Drawing from her own experiences, Alptekin will offer an inspiring perspective for those who aspire to work in this field.
Ayris Alptekin, born in İstanbul in 1992. She graduated from Istanbul University’s Department of Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy and completed her master's degree in film and Drama at Kadir Has University. She began her film career as the lead actress in Mavi Dalga (The Blue Wave) and made her feature-length editing debut with the film Kar (Snow), for which she received the Best Editing Award at the 24th International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival. She later won Best Editing Awards for Hayaletler (Ghosts) at both the 54th SİYAD Film Awards and the 57th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. Her short films Kot Farkı (Ground Level) and Ondan Bahsetmiyorum (I’m Not Talking About That), which she also directed, have received numerous awards at various festivals. Although she embraces a multidisciplinary approach to cinema, Alptekin maintains a profound connection with editing — one that transcends the boundaries of the post-production process.
