Off the Record with ACT Music
ACT, an independent record label that has played a vital role in shaping the unique identity of European jazz since 1992, is opening its doors and catalog to Istanbul's jazz community. During the Off the Record gathering, attendees will experience ACT's journey from its roots to the present by listening to selected vinyl records from its catalog spanning over 30 years. Accompanying this listening session, the ACT and Loft Union teams will hold a conversation on the realities of sustaining an independent jazz label today, building a catalog, and forging impactful partnerships with artists. This talk will seek answers to questions such as: “What does an independent record label mean in the contemporary music industry? In the age of digital and streaming platforms, what is the role of physical products such as vinyl, collections, tangible objects and the live concert experience? How does a label discover and develop an artist, and sustain a career over the years? And in the midst of all this, how is a 'sound' preserved?”. The gathering will also feature a listening session with tracks from the ACT catalogue and will take place at taproomx on September 29.
