Önder Focan & Yavuz Darıdere "Legendary Hammond Trio" & Guests
One of the most distinctive trio formats in jazz consists of guitar, Hammond organ, and drums. Önder Focan developed an interest in this special setup in the mid-1990s, taking his first major step in this direction with the album Beneath the Stars, recorded in 1997 with Sam Yahel and Bill Stewart and released by Blue Note. Later, Focan met Yavuz Darıdere—one of the few musicians in Turkey who plays the Hammond organ at a world-class level. The collaboration between the two masters led to the formation of trios whose performances made a strong impression at various festivals and concerts. Due to Darıdere’s move to Izmir, the duo took a break from performing together, but recently reunited to revive the Legendary Hammond Trio. For this special concert as part of the 35th Akbank Jazz Festival, the trio will be joined by young jazz trumpeter from İzmir, Taha Maral, and acclaimed jazz vocalist Ceren Temel, known for her powerful performances. Promising an evening rich in musical color, the concert will take place on October 5 at Bağlarbaşı Cultural Center.
