Where Do You Draw the Line? - Talks and Workshop Program

Talk: "Where Do Art Department Stand on the Line?"

Time: 15.00 – 16.30

Speakers: Güzin Erkaymaz, Ceyda Yüceer

Moderator: Elif Akçalı

Research conducted in Turkey and around the world reveals that within the film production department, art departments are among the areas where women are most visible behind the camera. In this talk, we will discuss to what extent the labor of art department workers — who are responsible for the entire visual world represented on screen — is acknowledged within this broader space of representation in cinema. Together with our speakers, Güzin Erkaymaz and Ceyda Yüceer, we will explore where the work of art departments stands on this line of visibility and recognition.

Güzin Erkaymaz, graduated from the Department of Film and Television at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. She works as a production designer in the fields of cinema and television, contributing to short films, feature films, TV series, and commercials. Embracing an aesthetic approach that unites the relationship between space, color, and objects with the emotional atmosphere of the narrative, Erkaymaz particularly focuses on expressing the inner worlds of characters through visual elements. Her credits include a variety of national and international film and television projects such as Aftersun, İstanbul Ansiklopedisi, and Slow Horses.

Ceyda Yüceer, graduated from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Bilkent University. She began her career in 2013 as a set designer on international productions filmed in Turkey. She has worked on feature films across various genres — including horror, drama, biography, and war — as well as on documentary, commercial, and short film projects. In 2021, she was selected for the Berlinale Talents Production Design Workshop. She was nominated for Best Production Design at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for her work on Soluk (2019), Kumbara (2020), and at the Istanbul Film Festival for 8x8 (2024). In 2022, she served as the production designer for Kurak Günler, which was selected for the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. The same year, she produced the short film ben-gi. In 2024, the short film Neredeyse Kesinlikle Yanlış, which she produced, premiered in Europe at the 81st Venice Film Festival and in North America at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, winning the Best Short Film Award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.

The event will take place at Kadir Has University / Cinema B. Entrances will be through Door D.
