Where Do Sound/Foley Stand on the Line?

Where Do You Draw the Line? - Talks and Workshop Program

Talk: "Where Do Sound/Foley Stand on the Line?"

Time: 15.00 – 16.30

Moderator: Elif Akçalı

Speakers: Zeynep Çelen, Bukle Naz Acar

In film, sound not only emphasizes what is seen but also creates what is unseen; it builds atmosphere, guides emotion, and deepens the layers of meaning within the narrative.

In this talk, featuring Zeynep Çelen and Bukle Naz Acar as speakers, we will discuss the creative processes of sound in cinema and the working conditions in this field, inspired by their own professional journeys.

Bukle Naz Acar, born in 1994, studied Sound Engineering at SAE Institute in 2015. Since 2020, she has been working as a foley mixer at Foley Istanbul. She has worked on foley recordings for local productions Şahsiyet, Hakkı, and Neandria, as well as international series Sherwood for BBC and All Creatures Great and Small for PBS. She has worked on two award-winning projects in the field of sound design.

Zeynep Çelen, born in 1989, Zeynep Çelen began working as a foley artist in post-production in 2021 after a short education period. Working at Foley Istanbul, Çelen has been a foley artist on local productions such as Kuş Uçuşu, Umami, and Aşkı Hatırla, as well as international projects such as Sin Huellas, Sherwood, and Ralph and Katie.

The event will take place at Kadir Has University / Cinema B. Entrances will be through Door D.
