Where Do You Draw the Line? - Talks and Workshop Program
Talk: "Where Do Production Department Stand on the Line?"
Time: 15.00 – 16.30
Speakers: Ilgım Coşar, Alara Hamamcıoğlu
Moderator: Ruken Doğu Erdede
Research shows that films produced by women often foster more balanced, equitable, and inclusive teams in terms of gender representation. In this talk, we will explore whether production itself has a gender, discussing power dynamics on set as well as the past and future of hierarchical structures. Together with our speakers, Ilgım Coşar and Alara Hamamcıoğlu, we will also touch on practices of team building and management within the film industry.
Ilgım Coşar graduated from Robert College in 2012 and from the Department of Economics at Boğaziçi University in 2017, where she also completed the university’s Film Certificate Program. After earning her Master’s degree in Cultural Studies from Sabancı University, she has been working as the executive producer of İlk Göktürk, a project developed by Alper Çağlar for HBO Max.
In 2022, together with Alara Hamamcıoğlu, she produced Beginnings directed by Ozan Yoleri and The Great Siege directed by Sinan Kesova. She is currently developing The Song of the Skeleton with Murat Uğurlu and Timeless Children with Ekin Demirhanoğlu.
Alara Hamamcıoğlu graduated from the Department of Sociology at Boğaziçi University and completed the university’s Film Certificate Program. Immediately after graduation, she began working in production on various TV series and feature film projects.
As one of the founding partners of Vigo Film, established in 2018, she has produced four feature films, one mini-series, and several short films. Among the projects she has produced are Suddenly (Aniden, Tokyo International Film Festival, 2022; Rotterdam International Film Festival, 2023) directed by Melisa Önel, and Beginnings (Başlangıçlar, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, NETPAC Award, 2023) directed by Ozan Yoleri.
Most recently, The Great Siege (Büyük Kuşatma), directed by Sinan Kesova and produced by Hamamcıoğlu, won the “Best First Feature” award at the 2024 Istanbul Film Festival and received three awards from the Turkish Film Critics Association (SİYAD). She is currently developing a digital platform series and two feature films.
