Memories Lost and Found: Nancy Atakan and Kalliopi Lemos + Volkan Kızıltunç

15– 21 February 2021

Volkan Kızıltunç

Volkan Kızıltunç is an artist working in between still and moving image and born in Ankara in 1976 and living in Istanbul.

His photography and video works focus on time, observation, voyeurism, memory, topographical researches, archives and typologies and try to analyse time in a wider perspective to open up discussions between photography and film.

Nancy Atakan

The American born Istanbul based Nancy Atakan has been an active figure in the Istanbul arts scene since 1970s not only as an artist but also a teacher and art historian. Atakan’s practice spans a multimedia approach encompassing installation, video, photography, digital printing, neon and text. In her work, the artist incorporates references to femininity, gender politics, memory, globalization and relationship between image and word.

Kalliopi Lemos

Lemos is a London-based sculptor, painter and installation artist. Lemos creates big-scale public installations, challenging the viewer, with the focus on human rights, the issue of increasing global undocumented migration and female oppression. She also has made a series of films, where she creates objects (sculptures), which she uses to generate the storyline of the film around those objects.

Nancy Atakan ve Kalliopi Lemos

This is the first joint collaboration by Nancy Atakan and Kalliopi Lemos; artists who have established considerable international reputations for work rooted in storytelling, identity and the female experience. The genesis of this work comes through a shared interest in female and familial stories in which women are often the ‘keepers’ of cherished memories and stories passed down through the generations.
