BIOGRAPHY
Serhan Erkol

Serhan Erkol started his musical education in Izmir Dokuz Eylül University, Buca Faculty of Education, Classical Music Department. As part of his education in the university, he took violin, piano, singing and orchestra flute lessons. Apart from his academic education, he started playing violin in Izmir Youth Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Tuğrul Göğüş. Due to his increasing interest in wind instruments and particularly in jazz, he started to play clarinet and saxophone.

In 1999, when Istanbul Bilgi University opened a Music Department for Jazz which, for the first time, offers a program for jazz saxophone playing, he decided to settle in Istanbul and become a student of the university. At first, he attended classes as a guest student for a year, but then passing talent tests for saxophonists, he earned a scholarship and completed the 4-year-program successfully.

In Bilgi University, he studied with Ricky Ford, Lawrence “Butch” Morris, Donovan Mixon, Aydın Esen, Can Kozlu, and Ali Perret. As an orchestra member, he played in various jazz clubs and festivals abroad with Ricky Ford Orchestra, Donovan Mixon Quartet and Teneffüs. In 2014, after his graduation from Bilgi, he was accepted to study in New England Conservatory, Comtemporary Improvisation Master program as Fulbright scholarship holder. In the school, he had the opportunity to study with many well-respected teachers, such as Ran Blake, George Garzone, Peter Row, Jerry Bergonzi, Allen Chase, Joe Morris, and Anthony Coleman.

Erkol continues his music career as a professional musician by performing in various music projects and groups, and also performing his original music in respected music venues. He released his first album, Motel ATM in 2016 December.
