Işıl Kapu's practice revolves around the idea of preserving archaeological cultural heritage and transferring knowledge. The artist explores different interpretations of the surface, mass, and form elements of an archaic object using contemporary production techniques and materials. She translates the archaic body abstractions she works on with sketches into digital models, transforms them into digital collages, and finally scales the sculpture when transitioning from digital to object. As she abstracts the bodies of the figures, repeats, adds, and subtracts from them, she brings the movement and form evident on the surfaces of archaic sculptures and reliefs into a uniquely personal realm.
About the Artist:
After graduating from the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Istanbul Technical University, Işıl Kapu completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in the Department of Sculpture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
