Akbank Sanat Literature Talks - Do Humans Change?
“Modernism and the Fragmentation of Consciousness”
Prepared and presented by: Didem Bayındır & Başak Gürbüz
Time: 18.00 - 19.30
At the start of the twentieth century, wars, Freud's psychoanalysis, and Einstein's theory of relativity changed humanity's perception of reality almost at its root. This period has strong counterparts in literature too: works such as Ulysses and Mrs Dalloway. In this part of the programme, alongside the stream-of-consciousness technique, the fragmentation of time, and the transformation of the individual's inner world into narrative, we will discuss why modernism is one of the greatest aesthetic ruptures in literary history, a question that still preoccupies our minds today.
